I became a massage therapist because, long before it was a job, it was simply who I was. As a kid, I traded massages with family and friends, and everyone said the same thing: You’re really good at this. It became family lore that this was what I’d do one day.

After getting my college degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences in 2004, I went on to earn my massage therapy license thinking it might be a side hustle. Instead, I fell in love with working 1:1 with clients, and learning how my gifts were able to help people heal and return to wellness in their bodies. In 2005, I dove in headfirst and made it my full-time work and I’ve been practicing ever since.

My relationship with healing deepened after my own body was injured during childbirth in 2008 and then subsequently in two back-to-back falls in 2011—once on ice, once down a flight of stairs. The pain was debilitating and life altering. The prescription drugs I was offered by conventional medical doctors didn’t help and made me feel sick. The physical therapy wasn’t addressing the soft tissue inflammation and being in pain is simply EXHAUSTING!

When a friend recognized the discomfort I was in, she gifted me a topical salve that included CBD and Arnica. For me, the relief was immediate and profound! I was so surprised how fast it worked, I went from limping to feeling great almost immediately. I knew then that this medicine belonged in my work and was something I wanted to offer my clients to relieve their pain as well.

By that point in my career, I was already making my own herbal-infused oils for my clients, and I took the steps to become a certified Cannabis Caregiver in the State of Maine. This license (at the time) allowed me to thoughtfully and legally incorporate CBD into my formulations, offering others the same kind of relief that had changed my own life. From these experiences, Rooted Remedi, LLC was born and I now enjoy making plant medicine products to share and incorporate into my massage therapy treatments.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I felt honored to be named an essential business by the Maine Governor’s office, during a time when massage therapy was considered “non essential”. It was a testament to the work that I do professionally as a respected member of my field, as well as allowed my clients access to the very “essential” treatments they needed for healing and pain relief during that time. 

Outside of my work, I’m a mom to my daughter Maggie and share my days with our furry companion, Bub. We foster kittens for a local animal rescue and spend as much time as possible outdoors and in the water and sunshine; enjoying the simple joys of being together.
